"Well, I'm gonna be blunt. It takes something phenomenal to get me up off my bootay and moving whenever a female vocalist is involved. And I'm talking really exceptional, i.e.: sporting a pair of chaps and bra is about all that can really do it for me. Triprocket's lead vocalist, Kaila Brasell, has a distinct voice and a powerful yelp to boot, but I'm just not enthralled by it. Even after learning the about the laundry list of awards this band is getting, I cant help but revert to images of pink feathers and roses dancing through my head. Mental imagery probably triggered by the heavy influence from one of my favorite bands of the nineties... Garbage (see, looky there, sarcasm and an unintentional pun all in one sentence). The cover of "Immigrant Song" is quite impressive, while other songs such as "Mine" and "Secret Garden" have that certain pop fanaticism that could burst them onto someone's top ten list. Well, I would like to say that Triprocket may have something here, but I think the compost heap has started to decompose. Kudos to the band for making it to round 4 of the 1800 CALL ATT Battle of the Bands Contest. Worthy of a listen (beware the pink feathers)." |

| Music Box ...Indie Reviews from the pages of THE MUSIC
PAPER - TRIPROCKET (CD11): This CD
features slick, dark techno-rock that insinuates itself into your psyche with
its driving dance beats and strong, cool vocals (by keyboardist Kaila brasell,
who also co-wrote all but one of the tunes on the disc). Heavy synthesizers and
futuristic guitars drive this record, especially in "Therapy," a paranoid
excursion into the world of the psychiatrist's couch. The bittersweet
flamenco-style guitar featured in "En Route" -- along with lyrics like "I can't
drown the thought of you/When I smell you in the wind" -- make this one of the
most engaging tracks on the CD. All-around, a very high-caliber, professional
effort. -RC |
| Robert Wilonsky, Dallas Observer, April 30, 1998:
..."ain't no damned good"... ..."but that doesn't mean you can't like them.
There's nothing criminal about having guilty pleasures...is one of those
records that sneaks up on you...but it's innocuously likable in a catchy sort
of way, dance music made for pop Radio with a shelf life of 37 seconds." |
Liam Ross, 1216 Records, April 28, 1998:"These musicians are diverse, well trained, and ready for
greatness!" "Oh, electronica! You have to love the "no limits" factor of
electronic music...Not only are the separate elements solid, but the tight,
headstrong performances on this CD are top notch... triprocket has danced the
line between club cult-stardom and pop success with a flare that is
undeniable...This is some of the best production I have heard from an indie
band ever...triprocket is not looking back. They are making great music, and
making no apologies"... Four Star Rating! |
| J. Belanger, ORB Confidential, April 1998:
..."a red hot CD." "Somewhere in the
techno/dance/industrial/pop pool might be where you'd find, triprocket
swimming, but where they belong in the scheme of things is of little real
importance. The fact is, Triprocket of Dallas, TX is a three guy, one gal group
that just put out a red hot CD. Dominated by Kaila Brasell's strong vocal
talent, upon a backdrop of well-structured and performed music, this CD is
fascinating and pleasant listen." |
